Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
